General Dynamics Electric Boat has been awarded a $1 billion contract modification by the U.S. Department of Defense to procure long lead time materials essential for the Virginia-class Block VI submarines. This modification ensures a steady supply of materials, which is critical for maintaining the production schedule of the U.S. Navy’s next-generation submarines.

Mark Rayha, president of General Dynamics Electric Boat, highlighted the importance of this contract in reinforcing the submarine industrial base, enabling suppliers to ramp up production capacity and secure the necessary materials to meet the Navy's high-rate production demands. He emphasized that consistent and reliable funding is crucial to meet the Navy’s requirements for its submarine fleet.

The Virginia-class submarines are designed to address a broad range of 21st-century mission needs, including anti-submarine warfare, surface ship warfare, and special operations support. General Dynamics Electric Boat is the prime contractor and lead design yard for the Virginia-class program, working in partnership with HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding to construct these state-of-the-art submarines.
