Mountain View, USA — March 15, 2025:

Google has announced plans to replace Google Assistant with its AI-powered Gemini across Android devices, marking a major shift in its virtual assistant strategy. The transition, set to begin in the coming months, will see Assistant phased out from most mobile devices and app stores by the end of 2025.

In a blog post, Google confirmed that Gemini will also extend beyond phones, powering tablets, cars, and connected accessories such as smartwatches and headphones. Smart home devices, including speakers, displays, and TVs, will also receive a new Gemini-driven experience.

Until the transition is complete, Assistant will continue to function on supported devices. Google is working to enhance Gemini’s user experience, integrating features users relied on in Assistant, such as music playback, timers, and direct actions from the lock screen.

The decision follows Google's launch of the Pixel 9 series with Gemini as its default assistant, highlighting the company’s commitment to advancing AI-powered interactions. With features like Gemini Live and Deep Research, Google aims to offer a more sophisticated alternative to Assistant, promising new ways for users to access information and assistance.
