Annapolis, Maryland – On March 7, 2025, HD Hyundai Executive Vice Chairman Chung Kisun visited the US Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, meeting with key officials including USNA Superintendent Vice Admiral Yvette M. Davids and Academic Dean Samara Firebaugh. This visit underscored the ongoing collaboration between South Korea and the United States in advancing maritime innovation.
Chung toured the USNA’s hull structure lecture and fluid dynamics laboratory, where he exchanged insights with faculty and midshipmen on cutting-edge maritime technologies and challenges. He emphasized the importance of the South Korea-US alliance, highlighting its crucial role in shaping the future of global maritime security.
"South Korea is a trusted partner of the United States, and together, we will drive innovation in the shipbuilding and maritime sectors," said Chung. He also showcased HD Hyundai’s leadership in AI-based autonomous navigation and digital vessels, as well as its significant contribution to U.S. naval capabilities, including the delivery of five world-class Aegis destroyers to the U.S. Navy.
Former Republic of Korea Navy Chief of Naval Operations, Jung Ho-sub, who accompanied Chung, stressed the potential for enhanced collaboration between the U.S. Navy and South Korea’s shipbuilding industry to promote global peace and security.
Chung, a former officer in the RoK Army Commando Regiment, has been actively supporting military personnel in Korea. Earlier this year, he provided special barbecue meals to Naval ROTC cadets during winter training. HD Hyundai continues to expand its educational initiatives, having signed an MOU for talent development with the University of Michigan and Seoul National University.
The company remains committed to fostering deeper cooperation with the U.S. through joint research, educational exchanges, and internship programs, positioning itself as a global leader in maritime technology and shipbuilding.
