IIBFE of UIU Inaugurated with CSBIB Seminar in Dhaka

The Institute of Islamic Banking, Finance, and Economics (IIBFE-UIU) was inaugurated in Dhaka, with a joint seminar alongside the Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh.

Dhaka, Bangladesh — March 17, 2025:

The Institute of Islamic Banking, Finance, and Economics (IIBFE) was officially inaugurated on March 15, 2025, at the United International University (UIU) campus in Dhaka, marking the beginning of an important step in advancing Islamic banking and finance education in Bangladesh. The event was held in collaboration with the Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh (CSBIB).

The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent figures in the banking and financial sectors, with Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain, Honorable Advisor to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Bangladesh, serving as the Chief Guest. Other notable attendees included Mr. Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Chairman of First Security Islami Bank PLC, Prof. Dr. M. Sadiqul Islam, FCMA, Chairman of Social Islami Bank PLC, and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Gias Uddin Talukder, Chairman of CSBIB, among others. The ceremony was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of UIU, Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia.

Dr. Khalid Hossain emphasized the ongoing challenges faced by the Islamic banking sector in Bangladesh, including issues related to expansion and a shortage of skilled professionals. He expressed confidence that the establishment of IIBFE-UIU would contribute significantly to addressing these challenges by nurturing future experts in the field.

During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between IIBFE-UIU and CSBIB to strengthen their collaboration. The seminar also featured two research paper presentations focusing on Islamic banking, providing valuable insights into the sector’s opportunities and challenges.

The event attracted a wide range of participants, including university faculty, students, Islamic banking experts, government officials, academics, and journalists, all of whom engaged in meaningful discussions about the future of Islamic banking in Bangladesh and the region.
