Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA — March 31, 2025:

In a dramatic move ahead of Wisconsin’s crucial Supreme Court election, Elon Musk has handed out million-dollar checks to two voters in the state, signaling his intent to influence the outcome. The election, taking place on April 1, will decide between conservative candidate Brad Schimel and liberal candidate Susan Crawford. Musk, a close advisor to former President Donald Trump, has stressed that the result could determine “the future of civilization.”

This race is more than just a local contest—it's being viewed as an early referendum on the future political direction of the United States. Musk has suggested that the stakes go beyond Wisconsin, affecting everything from abortion rights and labor laws to the future makeup of the state’s electoral districts. He expressed particular concern about the possibility of a liberal win leading to gerrymandering reforms that could favor Democrats in future elections.

In addition to his personal donations, Musk is offering $20 (€18.50) to Schimel’s supporters for each additional voter they recruit in the final days leading up to the election. The financial incentives come as the election becomes one of the most expensive judicial races in U.S. history, having already exceeded $81 million in campaign spending.

Wisconsin’s unique system, where Supreme Court judges are elected rather than appointed, gives this race national significance. The court’s rulings on election laws, redistricting, and other key issues could shape political outcomes for years to come. A conservative win would tip the court’s balance, potentially leading to significant changes in electoral districts before the 2026 midterms.

Musk’s backing of Schimel follows his history of supporting conservative causes, including a record $250 million donation to help elect Trump in 2024. His influence extends beyond financial contributions, with Musk holding an unelected position as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a controversial role that has drawn criticism for its impact on federal agencies and programs.

Despite legal efforts to block Musk’s influence, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled in his favor, allowing his donations to proceed. As the election nears, Musk’s significant financial and political sway is shaping the race, with the potential to shift Wisconsin’s political landscape for years to come.
