Kyiv, Ukraine — March 8, 2025:

Russian forces launched a series of coordinated missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian energy sites on Friday, targeting vital gas and energy infrastructure that powers Ukraine’s military-industrial complex, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, reports RT.

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko confirmed that multiple regions were impacted by the massive bombardment, which caused significant damage to energy and gas facilities. The government is implementing urgent measures to restore stability to the energy and gas supply.

Naftogaz, Ukraine’s national gas and oil company, reported that its gas-extracting facilities sustained damage, exacerbating the country’s energy crisis. Authorities in the northern Chernigov Region and the western Ternopol and Ivano-Frankovsk regions reported local power outages due to strikes on critical industrial sites.

In the eastern Poltava Region, fragments from an enemy projectile struck a residential house, injuring three people.

The escalation of these attacks comes after Ukraine’s bombing of the Crimean bridge in October 2022, marking a significant intensification of Russia’s assault on Ukrainian infrastructure. In a statement earlier this year, President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed that Russian forces would continue targeting Ukrainian energy facilities in retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified that the latest strikes were aimed at sites involved in the production of weapons in Ukraine.
