GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – March 19, 2025
SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection, and certification company, has officially launched its FSMA 204 Food Traceability Solutions. These solutions are designed to help food manufacturers and producers comply with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Section 204, which focuses on improving supply chain traceability for high-risk foods.
As part of FSMA 204, food businesses must implement comprehensive record-keeping, develop traceability plans, and establish mechanisms for rapid data sharing. The compliance deadline is set for January 20, 2026, but many retailers are already encouraging early adoption by their suppliers.
Naghmeh Raiyat, Global Head of Food Assurance at SGS, emphasized the importance of the new offering: “With the FSMA 204 compliance deadline fast approaching, businesses must strengthen their traceability systems. Our launch today provides companies with the tools to achieve compliance, enhance transparency in their supply chains, and safeguard food safety, ultimately building consumer trust.”
SGS’s FSMA 204 solutions combine audits, training, and the TRAKKEY digital traceability platform to ensure that food businesses meet FDA standards. The FSMA 204 audits verify the accuracy of Key Data Elements (KDEs) and Critical Tracking Events (CTEs) to help businesses assess and improve their traceability systems. Additionally, SGS offers both online and in-person training to ensure that businesses can confidently meet regulatory demands. The TRAKKEY platform provides real-time supply chain visibility, enhancing the speed of outbreak investigations, minimizing recall risks, and improving product traceability across the supply chain.
These solutions offer significant benefits to food businesses, enabling them to streamline operations, reduce financial risks, and improve product safety, all while ensuring compliance with FSMA 204. SGS's commitment to food safety and traceability underscores its leadership in providing essential tools for navigating complex industry regulations.
