San Diego, United States — March 14, 2025:

Sony Electronics has announced the development of a cutting-edge display system that features a high-density RGB LED backlight, offering independent control of red, green, and blue primary colors. This next-generation technology delivers remarkable color accuracy and enhanced image quality, making it ideal for large-screen applications and professional content creation.

The new display system ensures superior color purity by enabling each RGB color to emit light independently. This results in a wider color gamut, producing vibrant and lifelike images that can accurately reflect a creator’s vision. Coupled with Sony's proprietary advanced backlight control technology, this system achieves precise color reproduction, even in large-format displays, where delicate light gradations and subtle hues are essential for creating realistic visuals.

Sony’s innovation is driven by years of expertise in the field of professional monitors for color grading and the use of its BRAVIA series as reference monitors in film production. This new system takes those learnings and extends them to a broader consumer and professional market, offering exceptional performance for both home theater setups and professional video production.

Key to the system’s advanced performance is the RGB LED's independent color emission, ensuring over 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space and nearly 90% of the ITU-R BT.2020 standard. This means the display can reproduce colors with extraordinary accuracy and vibrancy, significantly improving the viewing experience across a wide variety of content, from cinematic films to high-end TV shows.

The system also boasts an impressive peak brightness level of over 4000 cd/m², setting a new benchmark for LED-based displays. This capability is especially beneficial for content that requires high dynamic range (HDR), such as dark scenes in films or bright outdoor shots. Sony’s unique backlight control technology dynamically adjusts the lighting across the screen, enhancing contrast and brightness without sacrificing detail in either bright or dark areas.

In addition, Sony’s system processes signals with high precision at a bitrate of 96 bits, allowing the display to represent deep blacks and bright whites simultaneously, while preserving nuanced details in scenes with many intermediate shades. This high bit-rate processing also reduces color shifts and brightness variations, ensuring a consistent, high-quality viewing experience from multiple angles, even on large screens.

Sony's new display system integrates collaboration with its trusted partners, including MediaTek Inc., ROHM Co., Ltd., and Sanan Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., to develop control processors, LED components, and other essential technologies. These strategic partnerships ensure that the display system delivers exceptional performance, reliability, and scalability for a wide range of applications, from consumer televisions to professional-grade monitors used in film production and broadcasting.

Set to begin mass production in 2025, Sony's revolutionary display system is expected to transform the entertainment landscape by offering an unparalleled viewing experience. With its advanced color accuracy, dynamic range, and precise backlight management, this next-gen system is poised to redefine the future of home entertainment, content creation, and professional displays.
