Dhaka, Bangladesh, March 13, 2025:

United International University (UIU) has achieved a historic milestone by becoming Bangladesh’s first-ever Regional Hub for the 2025 Harvard Health Systems Innovation Hackathon (HSIL). The announcement was made by Harvard HSIL on March 4, 2025, marking a significant leap for the country’s healthcare and innovation landscape.

This achievement was made possible through the Institute for Research, Innovation, Incubation, and Commercialization (IRIIC) at UIU, with support from the Digital Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ecosystem Development Project (DEIED) under the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and the Ministry of ICT. With this recognition, UIU joins an elite global network of institutions collaborating with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL) for the sixth edition of this prestigious event.

This year’s hackathon, themed “Building High-Value Health Systems: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence,” will focus on developing AI-driven solutions to tackle healthcare challenges worldwide. UIU will host the event alongside some of the world’s leading universities, including Harvard University (USA), King’s College London (UK), the University of Sydney (Australia), Koç University (Turkey), Tsinghua University (China), and NTU Singapore.

The two-day event, set for April 11-12, 2025, will bring together multidisciplinary participants—including students, postdocs, young professionals, and early-stage startups—to develop AI-powered healthcare solutions. With mentorship from global industry leaders, teams will compete to refine their ideas, with winning projects gaining access to the HSIL Venture Incubation Program, which offers funding strategies, mentorship, and market expansion opportunities.

The registration deadline for Bangladeshi teams is March 21, 2025. UIU’s recognition as a Harvard HSIL hub underscores its growing impact in fostering innovation and research in Bangladesh’s healthcare sector.
