Houston, USA — March 26, 2025:
United Airlines has announced a significant expansion at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), breaking ground on a $177 million Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Maintenance Facility and opening a state-of-the-art $16 million Technical Operations Training Center. These investments reinforce United’s long-term commitment to Houston, where it operates more than 500 daily departures and employs over 14,000 people.
The new GSE facility, expected to open in 2027, will support the maintenance of over 1,800 ground service vehicles, featuring upgraded infrastructure and modernized workspaces. Designed for efficiency and sustainability, the facility is targeted for LEED Silver certification and will accommodate Houston’s largest fleet of electrified GSE equipment, reducing emissions and operational costs.
United’s $16 million Tech Ops Training Center (TTC) will provide advanced hands-on training for technicians, supporting the airline’s fleet expansion under the United Next strategy. The 91,000-square-foot facility includes sheet metal and composite training shops, desktop simulators for Boeing 737 and 787 troubleshooting, and scenario-based engine maintenance training. The center also features a $6.3 million Move Team Facility to streamline aircraft positioning on the airfield.
United’s expansion in Houston continues beyond these projects. The airline is also investing in the Terminal B renovation and expansion, set to increase passenger capacity by 40% with 40 new gates by 2026. Since 2015, United has invested over $3.5 billion in its Houston operations, strengthening the local economy and workforce.
