PLANO, Texas, USA — April 7, 2025:

A newly released nationwide survey reveals that 34% of Americans trust ChatGPT more than human experts in at least one area of their lives. Conducted by Express Legal Funding in collaboration with SurveyMonkey, the findings highlight growing public engagement with AI while also revealing deep caution when it comes to high-stakes decisions.

According to the ChatGPT Trust Survey, 60% of U.S. adults have used the AI chatbot for advice or information, and 70% of those users said the responses were helpful. The most trusted applications include career advice, academic support, and product recommendations. However, trust sharply declines when it comes to legal and medical advice—areas where most Americans still want real-world expertise.

Despite ChatGPT’s rapid rise in popularity, only 11.1% of respondents believe the technology will improve their personal financial situation. Younger users aged 18 to 29, as well as smartphone users, reported significantly higher trust in the AI than older generations and desktop users. High-income earners and seniors remained the most skeptical of its benefits.

Only 14.1% strongly agreed that ChatGPT will ultimately benefit humanity, indicating persistent uncertainty about AI’s long-term societal impact.

“This study shows that while ChatGPT is becoming a trusted source of everyday advice for many Americans, it still hasn’t replaced human judgment in matters that truly count,” said Dr. Aaron Winston, Strategy Director at Express Legal Funding and the report’s lead author. “The trust is real—but it’s also conditional.”

Express Legal Funding, a Texas-based pre-settlement finance firm, is known for its ethical funding practices and public education efforts around legal technology.
