In a groundbreaking event held on April 19, 2025, Beijing's Yizhuang district hosted the world's first humanoid robot half marathon, marking a significant milestone in the integration of robotics and artificial intelligence into everyday life. The 21.1-kilometer race saw 21 humanoid robots compete alongside approximately 12,000 human runners, all navigating the same course simultaneously. The robots, developed by various Chinese companies and research institutions, showcased a range of designs and capabilities, from fully autonomous models to those operated remotely.
The event aimed to test the endurance and performance of humanoid robots in real-world conditions. While most robots faced challenges, including falls and technical issues, one notable participant, the Tiangong Ultra robot, completed the race in 2 hours and 40 minutes. This achievement underscores China's commitment to advancing robotics and AI technologies.
