BRISBANE, Australia — April 20, 2025:

The Institute of Information Management (IIM) Australia has successfully concluded its 2025 Annual Conference, Induction, and Investiture Ceremony, held on Saturday, April 12 at Mantra on Queen in Brisbane.

With the theme "Navigating Data Integrity and Compliance in the Australian Digital Landscape," the event brought together senior professionals, thought leaders, inductees, and guests from across Australia and beyond. Attendees joined both in person and virtually to explore key issues surrounding data governance, ethics, and digital regulation in a fast-evolving landscape.

The conference was formally opened by Amb. (Dr.) Oyedokun Ayodeji Oyewole, CCDOA, FIIM, International President of IIM. In his keynote, Dr. Oyewole underscored the critical need for data integrity and compliance mechanisms amid global digital transformation and mounting regulatory pressures.

A highlight of the event was the keynote address by Ms. Kate Carruthers (FGIA, MAICD), Director of Info Sphere Education Pty Ltd, Sydney, who presented “The New Rules of Data: Compliance, Conflict, and Competitive Advantage.” Her insightful analysis examined recent legislative changes in Australia, such as the Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act (December 2024) and the Cyber Security Act 2024.

Ms. Carruthers detailed how these laws introduce mandatory ransomware reporting, integrated compliance standards, and expanded protections for vulnerable populations, including children and doxing victims. She urged organizations to place trust, transparency, and ethical leadership at the heart of their data strategies.

In addition to presentations, the event also celebrated professional achievement through the formal induction and investiture of new IIM Australia members. Honorees were welcomed into the institute as Honorary Fellows, Professional Fellows, and Associate Members, recognizing their contributions to advancing the field of information management.

The 2025 Annual Conference reinforced IIM Australia's commitment to fostering regulatory awareness, thought leadership, and excellence in data governance. As data continues to power modern economies, the institute remains a vital platform for collaboration, innovation, and ethical guidance across the public and private sectors.
