BANGKOK, Thailand — April 27, 2025
Thai authorities are set to verify the registration details of 700,000 mobile phone numbers linked to foreign subscribers before deciding whether to suspend mobile banking services for these users in June, according to the Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DES).
DES Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong confirmed that these mobile numbers, which have been registered since January 1, 2022, will undergo a thorough review. Alongside these 700,000 foreign-owned numbers, approximately 1.8 million unregistered mobile numbers will also be checked for compliance.
The government has mandated that the names of mobile banking service users must align with the names of the phone number subscribers. This rule, introduced on February 1, aims to combat technology-related crimes. If discrepancies are identified, mobile banking services will be suspended.
Mobile banking users are required to update their registration details by April 30, 2025. Those who fail to do so will have their services terminated in June.
Banks have been instructed to notify affected users and request that they correct their registration data by the specified deadline. Customers who do not receive such notifications can continue using their mobile banking services without issue, clarified Minister Prasert.
